Research Analyst

A position has become available for an Investment Manager at one of the very top performing boutique investment houses in Southern Africa. This Investment Manager is designed for the future with their unique geographic diversity, flexibility and bureaucracy-free work setting, supported by extraordinary processes and systems.  Working independently as part of a small, collaborative team, the successful candidate will gain broad investment exposure, and the experience necessary to evolve beyond the specific role. 

The Job :

In joining this dynamic investment team you will be involved in managing funds of noteworthy successful and high net worth individuals, small to medium sized retirement funds, trusts, and institutional funds.  As part of a small but highly effective team which is charged with delivering superior investment performance in South African and offshore investments, your role would be wide-ranging.  Key responsibilities would include fostering relationships with companies they invest in and actively participating in all aspects of the investment process, which incorporates making thoughtful portfolio management decisions and finding and evaluating international fund managers. More specifically, you would be expected to :

• Keep up-to-date about the SA and global economy, current financial news, financial markets and more

• Read extensively, specifically financial briefings by third party investment analysts

• Identify and research developing trends from an investment perspective

• Generate stock picking ideas

• Conduct regular company visits to discuss financial results / strategy

• Research companies and present your findings on the industry, company fundamentals, prospects and stock valuation to the team

• Validate investment views presented by external analysts with detailed proprietary analysis and research

• Conduct extensive research and thorough investigation of offshore fund managers as part of a due diligence process

• Contribute informed financial recommendations to the investment decision making process

• Attend weekly virtual meeting to discuss the offshore strategy and fund manager selection and performance

• Attend weekly virtual meeting to discuss local holdings

The Compensation : The salary is market related and the position highly incentivised.

Minimum Requirements : The ideal candidate meets the following minimum requirements :

• CA(SA)

• CFA

• Embrace technology, with an exceptional working ability of Microsoft Excel

• Be able to work independently, but also able to work effectively in a team environment

• Exhibit superior oral and written skills

• Good social and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact at an executive management level

• Be energetic, ambitious and sociable, with an insatiable appetite for improvement
